American Students at our School
| Last week our English teacher told us that a few American students would come to visit our class. We had to form groups and think of questions we would like to ask the students. Finally on May 31st they visited us together with a music teacher. First they introduced themselves and showed us on a map where they live and where they study. They come from Florida and study at Florida State University but different subjects. One of the girls works in Disneyland which we thought very exciting. |

They taught us a song about friendship to make us feel relaxed. After that we sat down in five groups together with one of the American girls. The American students told us a lot about their school system, their college, their families and their free time activities. They also showed us some photos of their families and friends. Sometimes they talked a bit fast but you could understand the meaning from the context.
Then we asked a lot of questions that we had prepared the week before about different things like food, TV – series, the internet, music and sports. One group wanted to know if the American people were satisfied with their government and the American student told them that she supported Obama. We also wanted to know something about the differences between Germany and the USA. As far as prejudice is concerned we learned that not everybody wants to be a cheerleader at American schools and they found out that German people don’t eat Sauerkraut every day.
In the beginning we were a bit nervous and shy but we were encouraged by the students. It was a nice experience for everybody and we know now that our English is better than we thought.
